The April TechWomen Power Breakfast will feature author, Judy Ringer and how she applies the Aiki approach to presenting new ways to utilize and re-direct the energy of conflict. This approach uses principles and techniques from Aikido, the Japanese art of reconciliation. The TechWomen Power Breakfast will be on Wednesday, April 10 from 7:30 to 9 am at the UNH campus. The breakfast will be in the Victory Club at Wildcat Stadium, located at 155 Main Street in Durham.
Ringer will discuss how most of us see conflict as negative, and how this perception has a profound impact on how we manage it. Whether the goal is excellent service, facilitating change or creating a cooperative work environment, conflict often gets in the way, but understanding the Aiki approach helps us emphasize appreciation, understanding and working with your “opponents” instead of against them.
“We’re very excited to hear and learn from Judy Ringer on a subject many of us face daily in the workplace. She’ll be highlighting options for habitually stressful situations, the practice of centering, listening and managing emotions, as well as helpful skills to communicate more effectively in conflict. This is sure to be a highly engaging Power Breakfast,” said Melissa Jurkoic, chair of the TechWomen Power Breakfast Committee.
Ringer is the author of Turn Enemies Into Allies: The Art of Peace in the Workplace. She provides conflict, communication and presentation skills training, coaching and facilitation based on mind/body principles from the martial art Aikido, in which she holds a third-degree black belt. Employing best practice communication models, Ringer brings to life key concepts such as self-management under pressure and appreciation of other viewpoints. Her programs are interactive, experiential and energetic.
Ringer is also the author of Unlikely Teachers: Finding the Hidden Gifts in Daily Conflict, and three CDs, Managing Conflict in the Workplace: An Aiki Approach, Simple Gifts: Making the Most of Life’s Ki Moments and This Little Light: The Gift of Christmas, as well as her award-winning newsletter, Ki Moments.
