Applications for NH’s largest startup competition open with $300,000 investment pool
The New Hampshire High Tech Council (Council) has opened the application period for its annual TechOut event, a startup competition aimed at enhancing the state’s tech ecosystem by awarding young startups with significant investment capital prizes. Now in its seventh year, this year’s event features a $300,000 investment pool to be given out in the form of investment capital awards to the winners.
The Mill Works Fund II, a partnership among New Hampshire investors, and the New Hampshire Business Finance Authority are providing the $300,000 in investment funds: $200,000 for first place, and $100,000 for second place. The first place prize in the 2017 competition was awarded to Kantum Diagnostics, Inc., a biotechnology company that is developing a diagnostic and therapeutic combination to prevent and treat Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). Second place went to Datanomix, a company offering a fog computing system that helps simplify and accelerate how companies extract value from machine-generated data.
“We are excited to continue demonstrating our commitment to New Hampshire’s startup community,” said Matt Cookson, Council executive director. “Kantum and Datanomix recently told us these investments helped them move forward much faster than anticipated as they grow their respective businesses. We want to help turn great ideas like these into great businesses and with the Council’s new alliances with Alpha Loft and Live Free and Start, this competition has taken on even more importance for us.”
Each year, TechOut identifies talented, hungry tech entrepreneurs and funds them through investment capital awards. The competition culminates with an event on Thursday, November 15 that features live pitches by the finalists, displays of their innovations and networking opportunities with like-minded innovators, entrepreneurs and investors.
The application period for TechOut is now open for startups that have been in business for less than five years, have raised less than $250,000 and have earned less than $250,000 in revenue. The culminating TechOut event will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Oracle+Dyn, 150 Dow Street in Manchester.
Completed 2018 TechOut applications to be submitted no later than Friday, September 21, 2018.
