The New Hampshire High Tech Council (Council) will host its last TechWomen Power Breakfast of the year on Wednesday, December 14 from 7:30 to 9 am at the Manchester Country Club, 180 South River Road in Bedford. The program, “Mindfulness and Father Christmas,” will be presented by Dr. Annabel Beerel, an organizational consultant who will discuss strategies to reduce anxiety during one of the most hectic and frenzied times of the year. On Wednesday, December 7, Laconia-based Orion Entrance Control, Inc., an American manufacturer of robust turnstile and entrance control solutions, will share its company story, opportunities and challenges with a group of hand-selected experts and a live audience to gain valuable feedback and advice. That’s the format of the Entrepreneur Forum, one of the marquee events run by the New Hampshire High Tech Council (Council). Even though New Hampshire is a small state in terms of size and population, we have a large and active non-commercial sector that serves and supports many technology causes and affinity groups. New ones form regularly and like the private sector, there are occasional mergers and acquisitions. This creates continual opportunities for partnerships and a need to regularly evaluate the landscape. Read more. Read more

Okay, it’s finally happening. National stories about New Hampshire as a great place to work are being placed, read, liked and forwarded. On November 4, the Wall Street Journal called out four cities that they described as “the new silicon cities.” Manchester was included with Birmingham, Alabama, Eugene, Oregon, and Richmond, Virginia. For the Council, we are always working towards and planning for the next legislative session. Whether it’s regarding issues held over from a past session, working on a new legislative concept, or working towards a collaborative approach with other trade organizations, or briefing new legislators or candidates about the Council’s important work here, we are never far away from the next round of legislative work. However, there is always the mindset to “wait for the election results” during any election cycle before finalizing plans, that was certainly true for this round. Read more. Read more

The recent news that The Community College System of NH (CCSNH) has been awarded a $1.2 million grant from the US Department of Labor to enhance Registered Apprenticeship opportunities within the information technology, healthcare and manufacturing sectors is welcome news for workforce development in New Hampshire. The result has been runaway health care costs that far exceed inflation. Wilcox Industries, a Newington-based manufacturer of tactical products, won over the judges and crowd of more than 150 spectators at the NH High Tech Council’s 11th annual Product of the Year competition held Thursday, November 10 at the Manchester Country Club. The Council’s premier event featured five New Hampshire companies vying for top prize, as each made a live, seven-minute pitch about the innovative product they’ve developed within the last year.
