Technology startups now have two more weeks to enter New Hampshire’s largest startup competition; the application deadline for TechOut has been extended to noon on Friday, September 2. Jointly organized by the NH High Tech Council (Council) and AlphaLoft, TechOut is entering its fifth year of recognizing talented entrepreneurs by awarding a half a million dollars in financing over the course of five years. The New Hampshire High Tech Council (Council) will host its next TechWomen Power Breakfast on Wednesday, August 10 from 7:30 to 9 am at the Manchester Country Club, 180 South River Road in Bedford. The event will feature three diverse programs including a “tech talk” that provides an in-depth overview of Microsoft Office 365™; a discussion of how to successfully integrate work and life; and an exploration of how millennials, Gen X-ers,” and baby boomers can all learn from one another. What did Bill Gates, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Jane Goodall all have at least once in their successful careers? Inspiration. Fostering inspiration in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among New Hampshire’s youth is a goal of the new UNH Cooperative Extension STEM Docent program. Following the recommendation of Governor Hassan’s Task Force on K-12 STEM Education report, the program offers hands-on learning opportunities for youth to strengthen STEM foundations in order to meet the expected workforce needs in the state. Read more. What defines a company as a “tech company” in 2016? Certainly not the same definition we used a decade or more ago, which was probably along the lines of “a company that focused specifically on developing a product or service that was highly dependent on technological tools and skills of its employees. The NH High Tech Council has announced the addition of five new members to its Board of Directors, as well as the selection of a new board chair. Candice Benson, Ian Howell, Lisa King, Dan Scanlon and John Whelan were elected to the Council’s Board of Directors and Toral Cowieson was named board chair. The election was finalized at the Council’s annual member meeting held on May 31 with each member serving a three-year term. Read more. Read more
